2024 Homicides in AC Highlights the Need to Provide ACPD with Necessary Resources (Immediate Release January 8, 2024)

We are deeply concerned over the recent surge in violent incidents contributing to a disconcerting rise in the homicide rate in Atlantic City. In the first 7 days of 2024 there have been 4 homicides. In all of 2023 we had a total of 7. This alarming trend serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for immediate action.

In light of these circumstances, I appeal for additional resources to bolster our law enforcement efforts. The need for increased personnel has never been more critical. We have grant funding for 30 additional Officers and have 10 budgeted backfill positions that have not been utilized. The hiring of these positions needs to be expedited.

The city's residents deserve to feel secure in their homes and communities, and a well-equipped and adequately staffed police department is essential to achieving that goal. Everyone deserves a safe City to live, work and visit, we are committed to working with all the stakeholders to ensure this happens.

Sincerely,

Jules Schwenger

President Local # 24
